WHAT WE DO
The Homicide Investigators of Texas is an organization composed of City, County, State and Federal Police Officers, as well as Forensic Professionals and Prosecutors in and around the State of Texas actively involved in homicide investigations. Our organization is dedicated to providing training, education, collaboration, and commitment to seeking justice for homicide victims and their families.
As Homicide Investigators of Texas, our mission is to provide quality training designed specifically for members who investigate questionable death. The concept of Homicide Investigators of Texas, Inc. originated in June 1985 by Leland K. Wood, who at that time was the Program Director of the Texas Crime Prevention Institute, and Sergeant Dwain Johnson, Homicide Division, El Paso Police Department. There was no association in Texas specifically for Homicide Investigators at this time. The H.I.T. Articles of Incorporation were signed, and H.I.T. was established and recognized by the State of Texas on September 22, 1986. The original Board of Directors consisted of the following individuals: Dwain Johnson, Leland Wood, and Juan Gonzalez.
Our Mission & History

OUR CREED
No Greater honor will ever be bestowed on you as a Police Officer, or a more profound duty imposed on you than when you are entrusted with the investigation of the death of a human being. It is the moral duty and, as an Officer entrusted with such a duty, it is incumbent upon you to follow the course of events and the facts as they develop to their ultimate conclusion. It is a heavy responsibility. As such, let no person deter you from the truth or your personal conviction to see that justice is done, not only for the deceased, but for the surviving family as well.
A Message From Our President

Troy Luecke
HIT President
As the President of the Homicide Investigators of Texas, I would like to thank our Committee and our Board for the outstanding work that everyone has done to make the 2025 HIT conference exceptional. I believe that this year’s conference surpassed all expectations. We had an increase in attendees to include four States. We more than doubled the number of vendors at the 2025 HIT Conference. I have the best group of investigators on the Board and Committee that I could ask for. As I go into the last term as the President of HIT, I would like to say thank you to all the members who attended and the Departments that allowed their Investigators to attend. It has been an extreme pleasure to serve you. We, as the Board, and the Training Coordinator are already working on the 2026 Homicide Investigators of Texas Conference which will again be held at the Drury Inn Plaza Hotel in San Antonio, Texas on March 23 through March 26, 2026. I have had the pleasure of serving on the Board of the Homicide Investigators of Texas for approximately 12 years and have enjoyed every minute of it. Next year I will move to the Past President position and will continue to serve with HIT. We gave away two student Scholarships to two very deserving college students. Congratulations to Colt Woodridge and Seelie Kennedy after they submitted their application, their goals and grades to review. We encourage our HIT members to have their college attending children or grandchildren to apply for these scholarships. The forms to apply for this scholarship are on our website. Our conference featured distinguished speakers who delivered exceptional training on the topic of homicide investigation. Our goal is to keep the cost down for our attendees and to provide the best training possible. “May God watch over all of us and protect the brothers, sisters of the family of Blue throughout this upcoming year. I pray that each time that you put on the uniform, you return home to your families after each tour of duty.”
